he east end of Long Island, in what is known as “the Hamptons”. This part of Long Island is known for its world-class beaches, outdoor recreation, shopping, and more. Spending a day at one of the Hamptons’ beautiful beaches is a great way to relax with friends on the weekend. If you’re looking for something a bit more active, you might enjoy kayaking, biking, or walking through the area’s extensive hiking trails. And if you’re looking to pick up a few things, the town of Southampton is a beautiful, inviting area with many shops, restaurants, and cafes to explore.

2. Sag Harbor is just north of camp. Originally a whaling village, Sag Harbor is on the bay side of the Hamptons. It offers a full range of outdoor activities including sailing, fishing, biking, and kayaking. Be sure to check out the yachts in port, the idyllic beaches, and the eclectic shops and restaurants in this gorgeous village!

3. East Hampton & Montauk. If you’d like to explore more of the Hamptons, you can head East towards East Hampton and Montauk, known as the “tip of Long Island”! Montauk & East Hampton have great beaches, fishing, miniature golf, sailboat rentals, and a historic Lighthouse. If you are really adventurous you can take a surfing lesson! Montauk nightlife offers plenty of casual dining options, a movie theatre, and, of course, bonfires on the beach!

4. New York City is about 2 hours away. The Hampton Jitney, which runs from the Hamptons into New York City, is an inexpensive way to make the trip to the Big Apple via the Long Island Rail Road. So if you are looking for the bright lights and big city, grab some friends and head into the city.

Evening Off – What To Do?

With some exceptions, counselors work from 8:30 am- 4:15 pm. After that you are free to do as you please, as long as it does not affect your primary responsibilities at camp. Here are some suggestions of what to do in the Hamptons:

1. Counselors may use the camp facilities after the campers leave for the day. Often times, counselors will stay late for a game of basketball, soccer, volleyball or more. The Swim Director must approve any swimming.

2. Hit the beach. With the town beaches within a 10 minute drive you will have plenty of sunshine left to enjoy. Cooper’s Beach in Southampton has been in the top 5 US beaches for the last 10 years!

3. The ability to earn extra money by working with our families.

These are just a few suggestions. Trust us, there is plenty to do in the Hamptons after your day at Southampton Camp & Club is done!
