Spotlight on Staff: Rachel Gallagher!

UntitledEver wanted to know more information about your camper’s favorite counselor? Well, first up in our ‘Spotlight on Staff’ series is Rachel Gallagher of the Poppies!

Job at Camp:

I am a senior counselor for the Poppies, as well as a bus counselor (bus #7 in 2015 was bar far the BEST bus!!!)

Unfortunately, I don’t really have a nickname. Tom, the Director, calls me ‘RGal’ (to differentiate me from my sister, MGal), and some staff call me the ‘Better Gallagher’, but other than that I’m Rachel 🙂

I am originally from Dix Hills, NY (Long Island), and live in the Hamptons during the summer with my sister, Melissa, and our Grandma in Hampton Bays!

Years @ Camp:

I have been with SCC from the beginning! Summer 2016 will be my fourth year at camp!

When I’m not at Southampton Camp & Club you’ll find me…

When I’m not at Southampton Camp & Club you can find me studying to be a teacher at SUNY Plattsburgh, in Plattsburgh, NY. My Major is on Childhood and Special Education, and I will be graduating with my Masters degree in spring of 2017.

My favorite SCC hangout would probably have to be cooking. Who doesn’t like making treats and eating them at camp!?

Favorite activity at SCC:

My favorite activity at camp would definitely be GaGa. It is always so much fun for both the campers and the counselors. You’d be surprised at the passion and aggression that comes out in even the friendliest game of GaGa.

Camp background:

I’ve been going to camp forever. I started off at day camp and then the summer of 3rd grade I started going to sleepaway camp. I went to Camp Cayuga in Honesdale, PA for 5 summers and then I went and worked at Camp Kinder Ring in Hopewell Junction, NY for 4 summers. You could say I really love and enjoy camp.. SCC is by FAR the BEST though!

What is so special about SCC:

The bonds I’ve made at camp with campers and other counselors are amazing. Some of my best friends now are ones I’ve made over my past 4 summers at SCC. I always enjoy coming back each summer and seeing how my campers have grown throughout the year. The campers here are amazing and I can’t wait for summer 2016 so I can see them again!!

Only 238 days until summer 2016!!
