Starting the New Year in an EPIC Way!

EPIC 4

Happy New Year to all our campers and their families!  We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that you’re off to a great start to the New Year!  We’ve been very busy on our end planning what we expect to be an exceptional “EPIC” upcoming summer for you!

Right before the New Year, we had several staff members of our Timber Lake Family of Camps attend the annual EPIC (Emerging Professionals ICamping) Winter Work Shop, which was held at Berkley College in New York City.  There, we worked with other camping professionals in continuing to develop the camping industry with the future in mind. This is accomplished through the design of and participation in various EPIC events such as this Winter Workshop. It’s an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas, and discuss previous camp successes in order to improve for the future, and to improve the quality of the camping industry as a whole.

The workshop was organized as a three-part workshop that featured Bob Ditter as the keynote speaker, where he spoke about “Being Young Camping Professionals” in the camping industry.  There was also 2 interactive roundtable sessions with various focuses such as staffing, operations, admin, and Social Media/Marketing.

Our Executive Director, Jay Jacobs, sat on one of the panels to discuss his career in camping, while sharing his words of wisdom with the younger camping professionals that were in attendance.  Tyler Hill’s Michael Davidowitz, who is an EPIC committee board member, along with fellow EPIC committee member Robbie Gothelf from TLC, were hands-on in helping to organize this full-day workshop. Dave Skolnik, Director of Hampton Country Day Camp, and former EPIC President, was also one of a select few who also participated in a roundtable discussion about his experiences as a young Camp Director.

Overall it was a great day for camping professionals and the TLC family of camps was happy to be involved in it! Approximately 75 young camping professionals were in attendance in total, and the day was a huge success!
